Ayurveda for Fall & Winter: The Vata Seasons

As we enter the cooler, dryer seasons of fall and winter it is time to regulate Vata.  Here are some tips from our Ayurvedic Practitioner, Adam Jackson:

  • strive to consume warm, moist, unctuous foods and beverages
  • eat more sweet, salty, and sour foods
  • eat more stews, soups, nuts and steamed or sauteed vegetables
  • teas made with spices like ginger, cinnamon, cumin, fennel, and coriander
  • enjoy massages with warm sesame or coconut oil
  • take warm showers or soak in a hot tub
  • recharge with short naps in the afternoon
  • brighten your days by wearing warm colors
  • wear layers and especially protect the back of your neck from wind and cold
  • practice gentle yoga and pranayama to soothe the nerves and calm the mind
  • avoid salads, raw foods and astringent, bitter, and pungent tastes
  • avoid cold beverages
