Silver Leaf Natural Medicine

At Silver Leaf we integrate both traditional and modern practices of natural medicine. The practice of Medical Herbology integrates traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, Tibetan, and Western herbal traditions, along with modern, scientific herbal medicine. By using herbal medicine in this way, we treat a wide variety of diseases and disorders in nearly every system of the body, including many autoimmune diseases, chronic infections, disorders of the nervous and hormonal systems, digestive and respiratory problems, skin issues, and problems of vitality and energy. Chinese and Japanese styles of Acupuncture tap directly into the body’s deepest controls over both the mind and body, offering a means to release negative patterns of functioning. We have been named one of Asheville’s leading Natural Medicine Clinics and providers of Acupuncture services for the last 8 years.

We Combine Integrative and Functional Medicine
with Traditional Medical Herbology & Acupuncture

During your consultations, we use both traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, Tibetan, and other natural medical diagnostic techniques and biomedical information like blood tests, lab results, and medical imaging to get a complete picture of health in every system. We work with many clients medical diagnosis and biomedical treatment plan to support your health goals. Acupuncture and Medical Herbology can be wonderful complements to standard therapy when appropriate, and we cross-check all drug-herb interactions before prescribing. Integrative Medicine is a movement within western biomedicine that takes into account hormone, immunological and nutritional levels and seeks to balance those often with supplementation rather than drug therapy. At Silver Leaf, we have a deep understanding of Integrative Medicine and can use nutraceutical supplementation alongside Acupuncture and Medical Herbology as part of your treatment plan. This can be especially important when treating complicated disorders that affect multiple systems of the body, such as chronic infections, autoimmune disorders, and digestive disorders like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

How Does Acupuncture Help?

Acupuncture is a gentle, relaxing and rejuvenating technique that releases tension, reduces inflammation and pain, and helps reset the deep patterns of dysfunction in the muscles and nervous system that are at the root of many acute and chronic conditions. Acupuncture therapy stimulates our deep, innate, natural responses to help the body and mind heal itself. Chinese Medicine is the oldest continually practiced medicine in the world, and Acupuncture has been used successfully for relief from a wide variety of conditions for thousands of years, and is helpful for anything from a sports injury to chronic conditions like diabetes, allergies, menstrual disorders, sciatica, migraine headaches, autoimmune diseases, insomnia, depression, just to name a few. We have trained in multiple styles of acupuncture, both classical and modern and can comfortably treat you so that you get the maximum response from your treatment. To us, you are a participant, not just a patient, and every treatment is explained fully so you know what to expect.

Acupuncture for Advance Orthopedic Care

Acupuncture therapy has a long history of success in treating musculoskeletal conditions. It is the oldest sports medicine in the world. In fact, due to its ability to heal, acupuncture and gua sha, (muscle scraping,) have recently been co-opted by physical therapists and chiropractors and they have renamed them “Dry Needling” and Gerson therapy, respectively. Unfortunately, they have been modified and taken out of the context that made them succesful for so many millennia and can be less effective, carry more risk, take longer and cost more for the patient when not administered by fully trained and Licensed Acupuncturist. The introduction of ‘“Dry Needling” in America has resulted in a staggeringly higher injury rate than what is seen with fully trained and Licensed Acupuncturists. We use hundreds of different acupuncture techniques, much more than just simply releasing trigger points, (which has been referred to as Ashi Needling in texts dating to 220 AD) and we seemlessly weave therapies like cupping, moxibustion, gentle electrical stimulation of acupuncture needles together to address patterns of disease. We can use herbal plasters to accelerate healing from trauma and help with recovery from surgical procedures like knee and hip replacements by using herbs and supplements to build the body’s strength and improve soft-tissue healing from within. We treat a wide variety of orthopedic conditions including; tendonitis, joint pain (knee, elbow, neck and wrist), low back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder inflammation.
